An integral ingredient to the formation of Colombian culture, we will be delving into the gastronomic, musical and cultural vestiges of Africa in the South American nation from Mon 21-Thu 24 May in tribute to 'Día de la Afrocolombianidad'.

MUSIC | Los Miticos Del Ritmo (The Mythics of Rhythm) : 23 April

 

From the sweltering heat of Cali, Colombia Will ‘Quantic’ Holland’s studio band Los Miticos Del Ritmo (The Mythics of Rhythm) return with an album of hip shaking, dancefloor quaking instrumental cumbias. The LP is 100% analogue and comes with an original screen-printed front cover designed by the London based artist Lewis Heriz.

Miss Bolivia (Alta Yama Tour 2012) : 23 - 24 March, London

MISS BOLIVIA is the musical project of the singer, DJ, MC and producer Paz Ferreyra, who mixes up dancehall beats with hip-hop, reggae and tropical cumbia rhythms. Merging digital sounds, experimental textures and native sonorities, Miss Bolivia goes for a new sounding aesthetetic leading us to the dancefloor and creating a hot dancing atmosphere.

Arriba La Cumbia this Friday 23rd March 2012 a party with Cumbia, tropical, latino, amazonic vibes! The rise in popularity of cumbia and tropical sounds just continues to soar and so it is with pleasure we return with another session of Arriba la Cumbia. The last sessions was a sell out with the main act playing over two hours. A proper latino fiesta!

Russian Red : 23 January, London

Named for her favourite shade of lipstick, Russian Red is actually Spanish indie sensation Lourdes Hernández, whose second album Fuerteventura, released in 2010, was recorded with legendary Glasgow producer Tony Doogan . Guesting on the album were Stevie Jackson and Bob Kildea of Belle and Sebastian, who appear tonight alongside Hernández’s own band.

Grupo Lokito : 23rd October, London

Grupo Lokito fuse contemporary Congolese and Latin music creating a modern-day cocktail of two of the great world musics. Founded in 2006 by British Latin pianist Sara McGuiness and Congolese singer Jose Hendrix Ndelo, Grupo Lokito's energetic frontline of singers are true performers, and when the groove steps up a notch in the blistering Salsa and Sebene sections, their exuberant and outlandish dancing has to be seen to be believed!
