Latinos in London & Friends presents VIVA PERU! This 28 July / 2012 . Peru as a fiercely proud and independent nation that is famous for its love of fiestas, festivals and the carnival, it comes as little surprise that one of the biggest events in the calendar to this year will be celebrate Peru’s independence day in London to keep traditions and the rise of Peruvian culture in our hearts.

Spanish traditional music has always been an important source of inspiration for classical composers. Especially since the end of 19th century, Spanish composers such as Falla, Mompou, or Granados have been influenced by the stories and flavour of Spanish traditional music, being the guitar one of the main sources of inspiration.

The Santiago String Quartet was formed in 2008. Its primary work is the promotion of Latin music in the U.K. and abroad. Suzanne Evans and Jonathan Hennessey-Brown were founder members of “Cuarteto Genesis” (Genesis Quartet) in Yucatan, Mexico. It was with this group and living and working in Latin America that their passion for serious contemporary Latin music was born. Cuarteto Genesis discovered repertoire which is rarely or never performed in the United Kingdom.
