Majagua is a 4 piece joined by a great percussionist Carlos Fuentes from Chile and the fantastic Camilo Menjura from Colombia on Guitar, Cuatro, Charango and vocals
Majagua takes you on a musical journey though Latin America’s mountains, rivers, plains and jungles, demonstrating the european influences by evoking the sweet and mellow waltzes from Peruvian great composer ‘Chabuca Granda’; Carnavalitos and Huaynos from Peru and Bolivia; Joropos from Venezuela and Colombia; the pure magical sounds of ‘Mercedes Sosa’ from Argentina; the raw Mexican drama of ‘Chavela Vargas’ with corridos and rancheras…. And then comes the exhilarating sounds from the African influences! portrayed by cumbias and currulaos from Colombia and the great sounds from Cuba’s best ‘Celina Gonzales’
"Majagua have enjoyed the privilege of being one of the most popular outfits at the National Theatre performing regularly since 2004. Majagua’s current EP recording is and exciting compilation of their best hits.
I love Majagua. They never fail to deliver, and seem to have the perfect set no matter what you ask of them. Plus they’re all great fun to be with, which also comes across to the audience. It’s a winning combination".
