It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of Cesaria Evora's concert on Friday 18 November in Royal Festival Hall. She has accepted medical advice and announced her immediate retirement
The concert promoter has released the following statement.
'Serious has worked with Cesaria Evora in Britain since her very first concert here, a magical evening 15 years ago in Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the London Jazz Festival. We have seen her fill all the major concert halls, and develop into a great artist, and we were looking forward to her return to this year's Festival. Sadly, this is not to be - on her doctor's urgent advice, she has decided to retire immediately and to cancel her autumn tour. We all wish her a long and happy retirement.'
Southbank Centre will be in touch with all ticket holders to arrange a refund.Cape Verdean superstar Cesaria Evora returns to London for a one-off concert at Royal Festival Hall. Evora fuses West African rhythms and European sensibilities with Caribbean and Brazilian influences.
Gifted with amazing artistic longevity, she has been compared to both Edith Piaf and Billie Holiday as she recreates the dreamy atmosphere of her native island home with a luscious blend of intoxicating vocals and compelling lyrics.
