Aurelio Martinez is acclaimed as a central figure in the recent resurgence of the Garifuna´s music, a unique Afro-American community who’s culturally threatened population lives primarily along the Caribbean coasts of Belize, Guatemala and Honduras.

Declared by UNESCO as World Heritage, the Garifuna music presents a century old fusion between the West African and the Central American rhythms and harmonies that is worldwide unique. Aurelio took the legacy of the great Andy Palacio and is at this moment the biggest Garifuna ambassador. His debut album “Garifuna Soul” received already critical acclaim worldwide, being elected by AfroPop as the best Newcomer of the year 2004.

Aurelio was featured in 2007 on the album Watina by Andy Palacio and the Garifuna Collective. This album proved to be the international breakthrough project for Garifuna music in general reaching the No. 1 on the world music charts in Europe before going on to win numerous international awards.

Performing alongside Aurelio Martinez in this double-bill is Danyel Waro. Hailing from Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean, this long established poet, musician and political activist is a celebrated champion of Creole culture and Maloya.
