17th August Orquestra Mahatma featuring PAUL CLARVIS
Orquestra Mahatma are one of the few truly original bands in modern jazz.
Led by the legendary Jazz and Session drummer Paul Clarvis, Mahatma's sound encompasses many worlds and cannot be shoehorned into a single category.
Expect a gig ranging from Ellington, Prado and Rabih Abou-Khalil though Bulgarian and Macedonian tunes, to American waltzes and fiddle mania.
"A little miracle of home grown British Jazz" The Independent
"stirring experiments in jazz without frontiers" Sunday Times
Paul Clarvis' credits include Herbie Hancock, Nina Simone, Paul McCartney, and Leonard Berstein. His numerous credits as a session player include Star Wars, Harry Potter, and The Last King of Scotland.
18th August Joglaresa
Joglaresa’s enchanting and beautiful sound combine Middle Eastern, North African, Latin and Celtic musics.
Directed by multi-instrumentalist Belinda Sykes, this London-based British/Israeli/Irish/Arabic ensemble has been playing since 1992. Now well-established, they are particularly interesting for the way in which they imaginatively push, and often transcend, the limits of what is often thought of as early music.
"carnival-like exuberance ... enjoyable and virtuosic" Froots
"Joglaresa's imaginative use of improvisation creates an exciting air of authenticity ... compulsive rhythmic energy ... luxuriantly ornamental solos" The Telegraph
19th August PENYA
Led by Colombian singer-song writer Angelica Lopez,PENYA is a band that wants to take you on a journey. They mix things up -styles, influences- because they know that's what everybody does - all of the time, in their daily lives. And PENYA seeks to distil that spirit, make it dance and let it it fly.
"Angelica Lopez's voice is perfect - sweet in a ballad, but her inspirations are powerful" Lubi Jovanovic
Angelica Lopez formed Penya in 2009. Having just released it's debut album to critical acclaim, Penya is already making wave, using the Violin/Flute Charanga formula as it's inspiration to mix many other influences – which include Rock, Timba, Reggae, Ska and Cumbia.
Penya's members have an astonishing number of credits including: Salif Keita, Jimmy Bosch, Airto Moreira, Bjork, Peter Gabriel, Joe Bataan, and The Gnawa musicians of Morocco.

20th August DILANGA RUMBA
Dilanga play authentic and firey Afro-Cuban Rumba and are made up of musicians who spearhead London's Latin and Afro-Cuban music scene.
The word 'Dilanga' in Cuban Ki-congo means 'times past'. The choice of name reflects the Afro-Cuban traditions from which the group draws knowledge and inspiration.
By nature Rumba should be an inclusive experience, and so after Dilanga's first set, this gig will become an open rumba - all drummers and dancers are encouraged to come down and join in for what will be a an exciting evening of Cuban music.
"as powerful and fiery as you could hope for. Flawless singing and playing with complete conviction, precision and passion" Blues & Soul Magazine
