Las Robertas (Costa Rica) : 13-17 June, UK Tour

Formed in 2009 and following their 2010 debut LP on Artfag, Las Robertas are embarking on a European tour for the first time. Monserrat Vargas, Mercedes Oller, Franco Valenciano and Lola Miche met as garage punk and 60s pop obsessed teens in their home town of San Jose, Costa Rica. International love and affection from every blog and paper worth mentioning were heaped on their young shoulders almost immediately. Under the weight of their teenage experiences and loves they recorded ‘Cry Out Loud’ - produced by John Greene (Dum Dum Girls, Crocodiles, Soft Pack).

Las Robertas deal in often heartbreak-soaked, timeless songs that swoon and swerve on the verge of fuzzed-out pop and classic 60s girl group harmonies. The group cite The Shop Assistants, Riot Grrrl and the C86 movements as influences but it’s the band’s enthusiasm and songwriting that cuts through any of the hubris related to being tied to any movement or coolness. One of the most hotly tipped bands at South by Southwest 2011, Las Robertas have been having fun and exploring North America on their first tour and are incredibly excited to be finally bringing their songs to the UK.

To celebrate Las Robertas’ arrival the group and Dance Magic Dance have compiled a limited edition tour-only cassette tape featuring the band themselves and a selection of music from the support bands they will play with, including La La Vasquez, Echo Lake, Sex Beet, Les Kellies and Weird Dreams. The tape will be available exclusively at the shows.
