Tim Maia, the Brazilian Soul, Rock and Blues legend would have turned 70 September 28 were it not for a 1998 on-stage heart attack that ended his tumultuous and incredible musical life. There’s no better way to honor a godfather of music than with his, proverbial, children. We are honored to be part of the celebration of a true Brazilian, cult, hero. Bringing you this memorial birthday party from the stage of Floripa, along with stages throughout the world. live sets from Cibelle Cavalli,Luke Christie & The Held Breath, as well as a blend of electronic and live performance from Isa GT, Moroka,and Floripa resident DJ, Ross Clarke. Cibelle is a multi-media performance artist, singer-songwriter and music producer. Cibelle’s music could be best classified as World music. She has been called a self-styled purveyor of “Tropical Punk”.
Luke Christie & The Held Breath: Talented Luke Christie has been playing the drums since he was 4 years old, since that early age and encouraged by his pianist mother Luke found a certain love in classic swing and jazz songs which took him in his adulthood to Guildhall School to specialise in Jazz. Over the years Luke has been on numerous bands but lately he’s had recognition drumming and composing for Floripa favorite The Hackney Colliery band.
This year Luke has immerse himself in the production of his debut album to be released in the next couple of months, the video for the amazing single ‘So make it worthy’ can be watched here:
Isa GT is a Colombian music-centric artist working out of East London’s electronic music scene. Drawing her influences from Cumbia, house, Baltimore, Champeta, Baile funk, Kuduro- and everything in between.
Isa has become a go-to in London for Latin music, as well as world artists in the EU/UK. She has done guest vocals and co-productions in conjunction with musicians such as: Joao Brasil, Dutch Rhythm Combo, Crookers, to name a few. Alongside her music productions, Isa is active performing live sets and djing around the world, in July this year she went on tour with M.I.A. as her tour dj.
Moroka: London producer/dj Moroka has seen his travels take him to South Africa as a boy and return to the UK via the US, after escaping the ‘resort DJ’ industry he returned to his African connections with a passion for his boyhood love of kwaito, a South African inspired variant of House. bringing the syncopated drum sounds of the southern hemisphere together with a unique London city touch.
Ross Clarke, the god-father, takes to the decks — Creative Director by day and resident DJ by night, Ross Clarke brings his unique originality and flair to Floripa. Combining his distinctive music credentials with twenty years of international DJing experience, providing the necessary tunes to keep the vibes yellow and green. Bringing you the heart of Brazil, from the comfort of Shoreditch.
