Children of the Andes (COTA) is a UK registered charity dedicated to supporting Colombia's most vulnerable children. Colombia is a beautiful country but it has been host to a the five-decade-long armed conflict which has forced up to five million people, half of them children, to flee their homes. This is the biggest displacement crisis in the world.
COTA works to protect children from immediate harm, defend their rights in the long term, and to strengthen children’s organisations in Colombia.
We are delighted to announce that COTA will have a stall at Spitafields Market on Friday 7th September and Sunday 9th September. Their stall includes vibrant, fair trade jewellery from Colombia and all funds go to their projects.
On Friday 7th COTA will be offering you a chance to have a genuine Olympic Torch in your hands and take a photo with it in exchange for a donation towards their work in Colombia.
On Sunday 9th, COTA will be joined by tropical music band Los Musicos. Los Musicos repertoire is a small sample of the Latin music universe. They play a variety of styles like Cumbia, Chandé and Porro from Colombia, Cuban Son and Salsa, Mexican corridos, Brazilian bossa nova and boleros, merengue and cha-cha-cha. Guillermo Monroy’s powerful vocals are accompanied by traditional instruments including the Colombian tiple and cuatro and Puerto Rican bongos and congas.
We are delighted that COTA and los Musicos joined forces to bring some of the Colombian spirit to Spitafields Market! Don’t miss it.
