MUSIC | WARA : Pretty Cliche (Remixes)

Pretty Cliche Remixed cover art
Wara have concocted an epic new musical genre of their own with strong Cuban roots. Combining a lyrically conscious approach with exceptional musicianship, this is a band with an urgent voice that demands to be heard.  Listen below the new remixes of Pretty Cliche, a Cumbia-funky song  of Wara mixed by Palov & Makala now available online and soon available for download.

'Pretty Cliche' from the WARA EP (Movimientos Records 2011) has made its mark as a live favourite and as one of the first tracks ever to blend Cumbia with Cuban Timba AND Hip Hop - a true Latin-London style mash up!! Both our remixers bring their own unmistakeable dancefloor sensibility to proceedings with Makala giving it a Cumbia-Moombahton type treatment and Palov infusing the track with big Afro-dancehall bounce.

The Remixers:

A prolific DJ, musician, producer and remixer who’s been on the scene for two decades, playing massive clubs and festivals across Europe. A stalwart of the ever excellent Lovemonk Records with several releases and a recent album, 'Unexpected Tapas', on the label. Makala also hosts monthly Global Funk Parties in his local Basque Country with the likes of Alice Russell & TM Juke, Nickodemus, & Daniel Haaksman. His production styles veer from Spanish rumba beats, gypsy swing, funk and jazz to more tropical sounds like latin, boogaloo, cumbia and ska, seamlessly combined with modern electronics.

With a style that blends latin flavours, block breaks, exotic soul, cumbia, swing and tropicalismo, Palov's reputation continues to soar following a highly acclaimed series of E.P releases with his partner Mishkin (as production duo Palov & Mishkin) for labels like Gamm, Resence, Scribble, Rebtuz. He’s also remixed for The Hot 8 Brass Band and Lovemonk's Más Achilifunk - Gipsy Soul From 21st Century. He recently launched his own label Carnibal bringing more funky tropical beats and mash ups.
About WARA

**Winners of the LUKAS Entertainment Award – Alternative Act of the Year 2012**

Championing a wild fusion of Cuban timba and salsa with soul, funk, Latin rhythms, reggae and drum and bass, WARA have been heralded as one of the most exciting acts in London right now. The band is fronted by Congolese-Argentinean vocalist Juanita Euka (niece of the legendary Congolese musician Franco); with musical director Eliane Correa, who takes the vocal lead on 'Pretty Cliche', on keys and not to forget MC Murmur (Fur) on the rhymes.
