The first day of this year's Celebrating Sanctuary London is a much loved multi-art and free festival on the South Bank. It is a concoction of live music, free-flowing spoken word, sizzle of food and rythms of dance.
Headlining acts include:
Elysian Quartet (UK) and Maya Youssef (UK/Syria) -classical British string quartet meets virtuoso qanun
Wara London
Jose Hernando Arias Noguera and Angelica Lopez (Colombia/UK) - A BBC Radio 3 World Routes Academy collaboration of vallenata-style accordion and vocals.
Sam Lee & Friends ft Karim Dellali and Yazid Fentazi
Appearances by Jeremy Hardy, radical, acerbic and subversive stand-up comedian and star of BBC Radio 4's Newsquiz,
Welsh singer songwriter BBC 6music broadcaster Cerys Matthews
and Lemn Sissay - playwrite and the official Olympic poet.
Celebrating Sanctuary London on the South Bank is brought to you in association with the Coin Street Festival. Coin Street Festival is programmed and managed by Coin Street Community Builders in association with Thames Festival Trust. Visit Coin Street Community Builders' website here
