This is the Launch Event for Clave Latina Festival (organised by Ola Latina - Also part of Salsateca's 20th Anniversary Celebrations

The primary aim of the event is an attempt to revitalise the Salsa scene in London and the UK, by highlighting the wealth of musical talent that has existed in this country for many years. Salsa is on the whole organic music, made and recorded by musicians primarily for the consumption and enjoyment of the dancing public. Although thousands of people enjoy dancing to Latin music on a regular basis, they are rarely exposed to the special experience of dancing to full live Latin bands, in contrast to their normal dancing to recorded music, or sometimes at best just to a handful of musicians 'playing' with backing tracks.

In recent years too much emphasis has been placed on the dancing of Salsa and little effort by promoters and teachers has been invested in making people understand the connection between dance, music and the culture where this particular music has been made.

Though Salsa is a very positive cultural and social phenomenon in the world, shared by millions of people today, the over-emphasising of the dance and the little attention to its connection to the music has been somewhat negative, resulting in many people lacking the due respect for musicians that play and keep this wonderful musical tradition alive, despite great odds.

The popularity of Salsa music and dance in the UK goes back more than 25 years, in the past Salsa bands and musicians played a bigger role in the promotion of the Salsa movement, Salsa enthusiasts in the past enjoyed listening and dancing to a good Salsa band, they provided a richer experience to fans of this music and dance.
