BIO

Brooklyn born Raper Joell Ortiz aka Mr Yaowa aka one quarter of lyrical powerhouse Slaughterhouse , returns to play London on Thursday 10th March at Cargo.

Since bursting on to the New York Hip Hop scene in 2004, the Brooklyn rapper established himself as one of the hottest properties in the game.

His no frills attitude, and his series of rhyme marathons entitled '125' Grams lead him to go onto being featured in the Source and XXL magazine, which resulted in Dr Dre signing Joell Ortiz to Aftermath entertainment.

Though signed to Aftermath, Dr Dre gave Ortiz permission to release his debut album, The Brick (Bodega Chronicles) on Koch, in 2007.

The album centered on his dense, rhyme-based work, and featured notable collaborations with Styles P, Immortal Technique, Akon and the legendary Big Daddy Kane.

The Brick was met with considerable critical acclaim, landing Ortiz features in numerous hip-hop and mainstream publications including a much sought after \u001cLeader of the New School cover story for XXL Magazine, along with Papoose, Crooked I, Saigon, Lupe Fiasco and others.

In April 2008 Ortiz parted way from Aftermath Entertainment, due to the reluctance of the label to put any projects out before the release of Dre's DETOX.

SLAUGHTERHOUSEJoe Budden reached out to Crooked I, Royce Da 5'9", Joell Ortiz, and Nino Bless for a track titled "Slaughterhouse" on his digital release, Halfway House.

Based on the reception of the track , they decided to form a super-group.

The lyrical powerhouse Slaughterhouse, recently signed to Eminem's label Shady records... The foursome are described as the game's most imposing lyrical force by XXL Magazine.
